Information for Health and Safety Representatives

The legislative framework for offshore petroleum safety makes clear provision for workforce representation. The following guides and resources are provided to give an understanding of this role, how it operates and sources of training that are available.

>> Overview of the Relevant Legislation
>> Summary of Consultative Provisions
>> Designated Work Groups
>> Role of Health and Safety Representatives
>> HSR Training Courses
>> HSR Forum

NOPSA has developed a handbook to assist HSRs in the performance of their role. The 2008 HSR Handbook (2mb) may now be downloaded from the NOPSA website.

The Handbook will be updated to allow for the proclamation of the Offshore Petroleum Act when that occurs, and will then also be made available in printed form.

A range of HSRs, union representatives and HSR trainers were consulted during development of this Handbook, and where possible their comments were incorporated. However, should stakeholders wish to make further comments for inclusion in the OPA version of the Handbook they may send their comments to information@nopsa.gov.au

Additional information is available at the Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism website.
