Feedback to NOPSA

NOPSA is committed to listening to its stakeholders, and responding to comment in a constructive manner.

The Statement of Values from the Corporate Plan 2005 - 2008 includes the following points:

Continuous Improvement
We will foster an environment of continuous improvement based on objectivity and quality
Consultation
We will use consultative processes to identify and respond to the needs of our staff and stakeholders

The Corporate Plan also requires that NOPSA will be receptive to the information and views that we receive. A significant part of the Plan is dedicated to our communication strategy, which identifies how we will inform and receive feedback from our stakeholders.

Core Processes

The core regulatory processes of the Authority each have provision for some form of feedback built in. This may be an evaluation form filled in by the operator or a review meeting at completion.

Workshops

The Authority runs a small number of industry workshops each year, which encourage active industry participation in the development of strategies and policies. These forums give operators an opportunity to comment on and influence NOPSA's direction and regulatory practices.

Stakeholder Survey

The first annual survey of stakeholder perceptions was conducted in May 2007. The results from this survey [560 kB], which included industry operators, the workforce and other government agencies, provide part of the formal assessment of NOPSA's performance.

Draft Guidelines

NOPSA has established a practice of exposing major processes and policies for comment via its website. Documents such as the Safety Case Guidelines are presented as drafts for comment before being formally adopted.

Complaint Handling

The Authority addresses all complaints with respect and confidentiality. Letters addressed to the Chief Executive Officer, and email sent to the information address, will receive an acknowledgement and a formal response.
